Rogers Holiday Drums
The new all-steel heavily chromium plated hoops, flanged for increased playing surface for ease of playing and specially designed for easy rim-shots. For general comfort in playing, most drummers prefer these hoops to the normal castings.
The shells are produced by dielectric heating, i.e. by placing the laminations coated with glue between the electronics which are circular. Thus shells so made have no lap joints, each lamination being butted, but the butt joints being staggered radially around the shell. A considerably higher degree of circularity results; furthermore since the timber itself is not subject to steaming or excessive heating, it retains its natural resilience with no tendency to warp. These shells have superior strength since the outer lamination is no more highly stressed than the inner and the structure is intrinsically stable.
The shell strengtheners are specially styled to produce more sound. The new sealing of the shells produces more resilience. Probably the most outstanding feature is the beautiful finish to the inside of the shells which results in wonderful tone, only produced by Rogers drums.

Webmaster's Note: There is a lot of bollocks spoken about UK Rogers being inferior to USA Rogers. This is nothing more than hearsay, an urban myth. UK Rogers drums are every bit as good, and my own side-by-side comparisons show that UK can sound better, due to the VLT vertical inner ply. Vertical Low Timbre as shown by DW results in a deeper tone.
Rogers started making drums under licence in England mainly because of the high import duty of 20% on American drums. Josh Rogers came to England to research UK production and was impressed by Boosey & Hawkes Edgware shells, made from Irish Ash with Beech reinforcing rings.
Traditionally, for their Ajax shells B&H had been bending one sheet of 3-ply wood and adding solid reinforcing rings (unlike other companies, they left the inner bump of the scarf joint). However for their Edgware range they had a new Gretsch-style shell where the 3 plies were laid up individually with the butt-joints offset resulting in a stronger, 'seamless' shell, with the reinforcing rings laid up in the same way.
They decided to use birch but initially they used any available species. Imported lugs and Ajax legs were mixed alongside turned swiv-o-matic fittings. Later, they made English versions of all the US fittings and only Swiv-o-matic stands, pedals, snare cradles and throw-offs were imported.
Josh Rogers was not impressed by American steel and around 1963, the brass shells from B&H's brass instruments factory were fitted with imported old stock Dyna-Sonic parts. Some consider the English Dyna-Sonic better than the American version, especially when it comes to the chrome finish. There never was an English wood Dyna-Sonic but I have compared the US version with an English Holiday fitted with a Rhythm Tech Active Snare and there is absolutely no appreciable difference.
